The Mercy Kids team in Rolla is growing, and it’s putting local youth in motion. Kristi Schulte, the newest certified physician assistant at Mercy Clinic Pediatrics – Rolla, is already on a mission to get kids fit.
“I love what I do, and I love to have fun doing it,” Schulte said. She joined the clinic in mid October. “I’ve always wanted to help people in a way that not everybody else could.”
Schulte, who grew up near Chicago, received her master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. In 2008, she joined a family practice in Winona, Minnesota; two years later, she transitioned to pediatrics at Winona Health, her community’s main health system.
“Because it was a small town, I had to learn a lot very quickly,” Schulte said. “A few years later, I was managing a full clinic five days a week, as well as treating newborns and hospitalized children as a pediatric hospitalist, just before I moved to Mercy.”
Schulte and her husband, as well as their 7-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son, have already made themselves at home in the Ozarks.
“I’m a busy mom. When I’m not working, I’m with my kids – and we’re most likely dancing,” said Schulte, who has two American Sport and Fitness certifications for group and youth fitness. “Dancing is a good way to socialize and exercise, so I also encourage my patients to do the same.”
In fact, since moving to Rolla, Schulte has started children’s fitness classes at The Centre, Rolla’s health and recreation complex. “Kids from preschool to middle school have joined us in aerobic dance programs, circuit training and lots of other exercises. It’s so important to get kids moving every day.”
At Mercy Clinic Pediatrics – Rolla, Schulte sees Mercy Kids from birth to age 18. She provides well child visits and immunizations; treatment of acute and chronic illness; treatment of injuries, and more.
“My goal is to continue growing as a provider,” Schulte said. “I’m constantly learning from my Mercy colleagues how to improve the health care for my patients here in Rolla. I really look forward to meeting the community and building some great relationships.”
Schulte joins Drs. Evelyn Aboagye, Suman Rao, Vera Mikhailova and Sean McEnaney, as well as family nurse practitioner Danielle Koonce and physician assistant Holly Erway. The clinic is located in Suite 250 at 1605 Martin Springs Drive and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. To schedule an appointment, call 573-458-6363.
