Hundreds Attend Mercy High School Career Day

December 1, 2016

ARDMORE, Okla. – Assisting in an ultrasound, stitching up after a laceration, reading histology results and using chest compressions and defibrillation to treat a trauma “patient” were just a few of the hands-on, interactive experiences students participated in during Mercy High School Career Exploration Day in Ardmore on Dec. 1.

Londyn Kozarwas one of more than 200 students from seven area schools who joined in on the fun and learning. She said she is interested in working in obstetrics or pediatrics, although she still hasn’t decided on the exact specialty.

“I’ve always been interested in the medical field,” said Kozar, a senior at Lone Grove High School. “Being able to have a look into what having a medical career is really like has opened my eyes into opportunities I have in the health field.”

Students from Davis, Dickson, Lone Grove, Madill, Plainview, Ringling and Tishomingo high schools also attended. Mercy hopes that through the annual career day, students like Kozar will have the chance to become exposed to the wider range of careers available to them.

“It’s important that we show students in the community the diverse careers available in health care,” said Tess Parker, a Mercy human resources recruiter. “It’s a great opportunity for them to be able to learn about it in a fun and incredibly hands on environment.”

Mercy co-workers from a number of different departments hosted booths with interactive displays throughout the day and were available for students to ask questions about particular career paths. While the event is held yearly at Mercy Hospital Ardmore, information on Mercy careers is always available at www.mercy.net/careers.
