Preceptors Honored for Guidance to New Co-workers

December 21, 2016

Mercy Jefferson held two recent celebrations to acknowledge the work of preceptors who provide professional guidance to new co-workers.

Each new nurse or patient care assistant is assigned a preceptor upon hire. The preceptor is responsible for orienting the new co-worker to their unit. The experienced nurse or other health care professional guides and teaches those with less experience, including students.

Preceptors are selected by leadership and recognized for qualities that need to be passed on to new co-workers.

These qualities include: professionalism, resourcefulness, engagement, organization, critical thinking, educated, passion for what they do, time management, talent, receptive and respected.

Our preceptors are a great asset to those around us.
