Mercy May Serve as Model for Cancer Centers in China

February 13, 2017

Patients half a world away may soon benefit from Mercy's Coletta Building, a one-of-a-kind cancer center and breast center located on the campus of Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City

Recently, leaders from China visited the facility to gain a better understanding of cancer treatment and detection.

According to Mercy radiologist, Dr. Rebecca Stough, breast cancer is a growing problem in China and there is no established program effective enough to treat cases.

“The patients would come in with a big mass and many times it was too far gone to even treat or save their lives,” said Dr. Stough in a recent interview with KOCO.

Chinese health officials are now looking to possibly model their own cancer center and breast centers after Mercy’s.

In addition to their time in Oklahoma City, leaders also toured Mercy Virtual Care Center in Chesterfield, Missouri.
