Breast cancer patients in China will now benefit from the expertise of Dr. Rebecca Stough, a radiologist at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City. Dr. Stough recently traveled to Liaocheng People’s Hospital, a 3,000 bed acute-care hospital about 300 miles south of Beijing, for the opening of China’s first breast center where she shared insight from her 14-years of experience in the field and encouraged local physicians to expand and improve care for their own patients.
Dr. Stough’s visit comes just a month after a group of Chinese leaders visited the Coletta Building at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City to gain a better understanding of cancer treatment and detection. Leaders say breast cancer is a growing problem in China, and there is no established program effective enough to treat cases. Chinese health officials are also looking to possibly model future cancer center and breast centers after Mercy’s.
