Cooperative effort presents falls prevention fair

April 14, 2017

In cooperation with Jefferson College and the Jefferson County Family YMCA, Mercy Hospital Jefferson is inviting area residents to “Put a Spring in Your Step” with the Community Falls Prevention Fair.

“Debilitating and sometimes even deadly injuries can occur when someone falls,” said Eric Baldonado, Director of Rehab Services at Mercy Hospital Jefferson. “By offering information and screenings we hope to save people from the pain and extended recovery periods that follow an accidental fall.”

The community safety event is planned from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, at the YMCA, 1303 YMCA Dr. in Festus. Free exercise classes are scheduled at 9, 9:30 and 10 a.m., and all who attend receive a free one week pass to try the YMCA.

Mercy pharmacists will provide a medication review for visitors who bring in a list of prescriptions.

Other screenings include bone density and vision screening. Physical and occupational therapy assistant students from Jefferson College will provide heart rate and blood pressure screenings. Provider Plus will have examples of durable medical equipment.
