May 16, 2017

The Netflix original series "13 Reasons Why," about a teen girl who commits suicide and leaves messages behind, raises concerns due to the way suicide is depicted. In fact, so much concern, many schools are sending letters to parents offering advice on how to talk with their children about the show.

If your child has asked to watch the show or is watching the show, the Jed Foundation and SAVE (Suicide Awarness Voices of Education) have compiled talking points to help begin a conversation with your child. If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, text START to 741741 or call 800-273-TALK (8255).

Mercy Kids Dr. Diana Roukoz speaks with Fox 2 News in the Morning regarding her experience watching "13 Reasons Why" with her teen daughter and gives parents tips on how to discuss the show with their children.
