Two new cardiologists have joined Mercy Clinic Cardiology – Rogers Avenue.
Dr. Andres Vargas joined the practice as an interventional cardiologist on July 17.
Dr. Vargas completed a one-year fellowship in interventional cardiology and a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular disease – and was chief cardiology fellow – at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Prior to that, he completed a one-year internship and two-year residency and served as chief resident in the Department of Internal Medicine at Louisiana State University.
Before his study in the U.S., Dr. Vargas completed an internship at Hospital Luis Vernaza in Ecuador. He earned his M.D. at Universidad de Guayaquil in Ecuador.
He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, nuclear cardiology and by the National Board of Echocardiography.
The clinic is located at 7001 Rogers Ave. in Fort Smith.
Dr. Sachil Shah joined the clinic Aug. 1.
Having previously practiced as a primary care physician and hospitalist, Dr. Shah recently completed a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Georgetown University Hospital Medstar Washington Hospital Center. Immediately prior, he completed a three-year residency in internal medicine at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Dr. Shah earned his M.D. at the University of Birmingham Medical School in the United Kingdom, focusing on medicine, surgery, cellular pathology and renal physiology. His other post-graduate training included being house-officer in internal medicine and completing a three-year residency in family medicine at University of Leicester Hospitals.
Dr. Shah is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
