Mercy Hospital Jefferson continues to add primary care and specialty physicians to meet the needs of the community. On August 21, Kylie Melton, MD, joined the staff at Mercy Clinic Family Medicine Calvary Church Road in Festus.
Board certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Melton earned her medical degree from University of Medicine and Health Sciences – St. Kitts, in the West Indies on the Caribbean Sea. She completed her residency at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
“The best part of being a family practice physician is the relationship you get to build with your patients. You get to know them and in many cases you get to know the whole family,” Dr. Melton said. “We provide care for patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. By knowing them on a personal level we are able to diagnose, treat and form a partnership for better health.”
Dr. Melton’s primary areas of interest include preventative medicine and helping patients manage their chronic diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.
“When patients and doctors get to know each other, patients are more receptive to hearing about how to adjust their lifestyles to prevent and treat diseases,” Dr. Melton said. “If they trust you as a provider, they feel more comfortable making necessary lifestyle changes.”
