Pink Activities Support Breast Cancer Awareness

October 5, 2017

Mercy Health Foundation Joplin is kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in style with its ever-popular breast cancer awareness T-shirts and Pink Fridays.

Shirts will go on sale for $20 each on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at Mercy Gift Shop (main hospital entrance, second floor) and Sisters Health Boutique (cancer center entrance) at Mercy Hospital Joplin, 100 Mercy Way. T-shirts can be purchased during business hours at both locations.

All proceeds will go to Mercy Health Foundation’s Mammogram Fund to provide free and low-cost mammograms to uninsured women, as well as funds for Mercy Breast Center equipment, patient education and programs.

T-shirt sales and pink refreshments are part of Pink Fridays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday in October at Mercy Hospital Joplin’s second floor gallery near the gift shop.

Other Pink Friday activities in the gallery will include pink hair extensions and nail art by Salon 529 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 13. Extensions are $10 each and nail art is $5.

The Mercy Mobile Mammography Van, based at Mercy Hospital Columbus, will be at various locations in October, including three from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Friday, Oct. 6, at Jay Hatfield Ford, 1517 High St., Sarcoxie, Missouri; Friday, Oct. 13, at Jay Hatfield Chevrolet Buick, 200 S. East Ave., Columbus, Kansas; and Jay Hatfield Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 1029 N. Highway 69, Frontenac, Kansas. The van also will be at the Columbus High School football game Oct. 13.

A $100,000 gift over from Jay Hatfield Companies helped fund a digital mammography upgrade of the van that serves Southeast Kansas, Southwest Missouri and Northeast Oklahoma. The Hatfield donation to Mercy Health Foundation was a substantial part of the fundraising effort to support the project.

If you or someone you know cannot afford a mammogram, call Mercy Breast Center at 417-556-2273. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information on Mercy Breast Center, visit
