Mercy Health Foundation celebrated an early Christmas gift in December with the award of a $150,000 grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas.
The grant will support Northwest Arkansas’ community internal medicine residency program, a partnership between Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas in Rogers, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences northwest Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, and the Veterans Health Care System in Fayetteville.
The program began in June 2016 with eight resident physicians, who were joined in June 2017 by another eight resident physicians. All 16 do clinical rotations at the three partners’ hospitals and clinics. The program will add another eight residents next summer, bringing the total to 24 residents in 2018.
Those attending a holiday social where the gift was announced included Eric Pianalto, president of Mercy Hospital; Dr. Steve Goss, president of Mercy Clinic; and Warren McDonald, provider network manager, Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, who are pictured in the attached photograph.
“We’re grateful for the continuing support of the Blue & You Foundation, which has been with us since the beginning of residency program,” said Clark Ellison, regional vice president of Mercy Health Foundation. “This program is essential to attracting the best physicians to Northwest Arkansas so that our excellent health care system can grow along with our community.”
