ST. LOUIS - As Mercy Birthing Center Midwifery Care continues to grow, a new location for outpatient services will open in December in St. Charles County at 1120 Wolfrum Road in Weldon Springs.
Demand for midwifery care continues to grow as the Mercy Birthing Center, the area’s first in-hospital low-risk birthing center run by certified nurse midwives, now has eight certified nurse midwives and continues to break records.
At the new location, midwives will see women for prenatal, postpartum and early newborn care as well as the well-woman and other gynecologic services offered to women of childbearing age.
“We have many patients who come from St. Charles County or farther and we wanted to give women the opportunity to have care closer to home,” said Elizabeth Cook, CNM, director of Mercy Birthing Center Midwifery Care. “We will continue to have office hours at the hospital location as well.”
Mercy Birthing Center Midwifery Care opened Labor Day 2014 and offers four birthing suites resembling home bedrooms with queen-size beds, showers and large tubs for labor. There’s also a central living room area, a kitchen, a community room for childbirth classes and a separate clinical area where patients visit the midwives each month during pregnancy for prenatal visits, and now the gynecologic care.
