As an orthopedic surgeon for the last 15 years, Dr. Rory Dunham enjoys being “Mr. Fix It” (or rather, “Dr. Fix It”).
“Orthopedic surgery is a unique field of medicine in which you can actually ‘fix’ problems that patients face,” said Dunham, an orthopedic surgeon who will join the new Mercy Clinic Orthopedic Surgery — 14th Avenue in Ardmore on April 1. “We are able to help patients overcome the frustration of pain and loss of function so they can return to the things they enjoy. I believe in a team approach to patient care, which includes involving the patient in the treatment decision process so they can have the best outcomes possible.”
Dunham grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma, and always had an interest in pursuing a career in the medical field. His mother was a surgical nurse at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City for more than 20 years and a neighbor during his childhood was a physician. He is looking forward to joining Mercy and getting to know the community in Ardmore and the surrounding areas.
“I am excited about building Mercy’s new orthopedic clinic in Ardmore from the ground up and partnering with referring providers to offer exceptional orthopedic care for their patients,” he said.
Dunham received his bachelor’s degree in biology from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He earned his doctorate of osteopathic medicine from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. After medical school, he returned to Oklahoma to complete his orthopedic surgery residency through Oklahoma State University’s program at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. During his residency, he did specialty rotations in shoulder and elbow surgery, trauma surgery, hand surgery and pediatric orthopedics.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for nine years, serving as chief of orthopedic services at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona and Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Most recently, he was in private practice in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He also served as the team physician at Midwest City High School from 2012 to 2017.
Outside of work, he enjos fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing and spending time with his wife and three children.
