ST. LOUIS - Bariatric surgeon Dr. Matthew Lange, a St. Louis native (St. Louis University High School), recently joined Mercy and opened Mercy Clinic Bariatric and General Surgery. With the addition of Dr. Lange, bariatric procedures are now available at Mercy Hospital St. Louis.
Dr. Lange offers all types of bariatric procedures allowing an individualized weight loss plan that gives patients the best possible results and weight loss potential. All procedures are done laparoscopically and/or robotically. He works closely with Mercy Weight and Wellness Center along with all other specialties to ensure comprehensive care.
Even from a young age, Dr. Lange was drawn to science and problem solving as well as helping people. He said medicine was an obvious choice allowing him to combine all the things he was passionate about and turn it into a career.
As to why he chose bariatric surgery as his specialty, Dr. Lange said he loves building patient relationships.
“Bariatric surgery is a lifelong decision and it allows me to follow my patients through their life changing journey and build great relationships along the way,” Dr. Lange said. “I have one of the few professions that allows us to give people a new outlook on life and give them a chance to retake control of their own health.”
Dr. Lange earned his medical degree from A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri, completed a general surgery residency at Michigan State University - Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and a fellowship in advanced minimally invasive/upper GI/bariatric surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida.
