Karthik Iyer, MD, has been selected as the new Chief Medical Officer at Mercy Hospital Jefferson. His appointment fills the vacancy left by the retirement of James Junker, MD.
“We had several highly-talented and respected candidates who indicated interest and were interviewed by hospital and medical staff leaders,” Mercy Jefferson President Eric Ammons said. “The quality of this candidate pool made this decision extremely difficult.”
Following graduation from medical school in India, Dr. Iyer completed postdoctoral residencies in Internal Medicine through Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He is also fellowship trained in Geriatrics, Infectious Diseases and Critical Care Medicine.
Since joining the Medical Staff at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in 2014 as a nocturnist, Dr. Iyer has continued to take on additional initiatives and leadership roles in service to the patients and people of Mercy Jefferson.
“I have a vision for the growth and excellence of Mercy Jefferson, and if we continue on our current path, we will be right there, among the best,” Dr. Iyer said.
