New Program Helps Parents Connect During NICU Stay

January 7, 2020

When babies arrive too early or have other medical needs requiring an extended hospitalization, they are often transferred to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Visiting babies during their stay can be tough on parents for many reasons, whether they need to go back to work or live hundreds of miles away. This is why Mercy Kids along with Mercy Virtual have teamed up to pilot the vKids NICU program at Mercy Children’s Hospital St. Louis.

The vKids NICU program enables parents to connect and be present for rounds with doctors and nurses, even when they aren’t physically in the room. Parents simply download the app and are able to connect in real time. They can ask questions in the moment rather than waiting for a call back when the doctor is available. In addition, the tool can be used for educational materials and resources as well as to share fun milestones with parents via photos or live video chats.

Mercy's vKids NICU program gives parents peace of mind when they aren't able to be with their baby.
