Mercy Hospital Ada Honored with ‘A’ Grade for Patient Safety from Leapfrog Group

November 10, 2021

ADA, Okla. – For the fourth consecutive time, Mercy Hospital Ada has received an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for achievements in protecting patients from harm and errors in the hospital.

“We are extremely proud that our co-workers’ commitment to safety and quality has again been recognized by Leapfrog, an objective, third-party group that evaluates and reports on hospitals’ quality, safety and performance,” said Terence Farrell, president of Mercy Hospital Ada. “The care of our patients is always our first priority, and our nurses, doctors and entire care teams reflect that in their work every day. This honor, achieved by less than one-third of hospitals nationwide, would not be possible without them and their dedication to serving everyone who comes to us for care. The healing work they do is always done in service to our community.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national watchdog organization, assigns letter grades to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm to their patients.

In Oklahoma, Mercy Hospital Ada was one of only 11 hospitals throughout the state to earn an A grade from Leapfrog in the Fall 2021 grades.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public at hospitalsafetygrade.org. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Mercy Hospital Ada for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”

Besides an A grade from The Leapfrog Group, Mercy Hospital Ada earlier this year was named a 2021 Best Maternity Hospital by Newsweek and The Leapfrog Group.
