Mercy Northwest Arkansas in partnership with Air Methods Corporation launches Mercy Medflight, an emergency medical helicopter known as “The Spirit of Mercy.” On March 15 the helicopter touches down at its home base at Mercy Hospital, however, it is available for use to other area hospitals as well.
The helicopter is dispatched across the area when rapid medical care is required and air travel is deemed best. With the landscape of NWA, Mercy Medflight fills a great need for rural community residents.
Mercy’s decision to select Air Methods Corporation as its partner in the Medflight program was due to the company’s reputation for excellence in the air transportation industry. The partnership brings the latest in aviation technology with the EC130 helicopter. In the past 6 years Air Methods has invested more than $100 million toward helicopter safety. They are the only air medical provider in the United States ready to graduate the level 3 of the FAA’s voluntary safety management system program. In addition to the high tech systems on board, the aircraft will also be equipped with night vision goggles, more room for patient care and access, and is operationally safer with increased helicopter blade height and safety enclosure for the tail rotor.
