Shadowing at Mercy is considered an observation only experience. Students shadowing fewer than 16 hours may complete the Short-Term Shadowing Packet below. Medical Explorers

Mercy Hospital Springfield's Medical Explorer Post #339 is a you health care career exploration program jointly sponsored by Mercy Hospital Springfield and the Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life program. The overall purpose of Medical Explorers is to provide worksite-based experiences for young men and women ages 15 through 20. Education through observation enables youth to make an informed career decision.

Explorer candidates applying for the Fall 2018 session must attend mandatory Orientation on October 4, 2018 at 5 p.m. at hte Catherine McAuley Conference Center (main hospital; south entrance, then first hallway to the right) on the Mercy Hospital Springfield campus. Candidates must submit the Mercy Medical Explorers Application and Boy Scouts of America Application.

All candidates must register and pay the annual registration fee before being allowed to attend the orientation. Candidates must bring completed copies of the Mercy Medical Explorer application AND the Learning for Life Youth application to orientation.

Clinical Rotations

Students interested in completing clinical rotations at Mercy must complete the Clinical Rotation Application, provide proof of medical malpractice coverage, clinical objectives and a letter of good standing from the academic program.  An academic affiliation agreement signed by the school and Mercy must be in place prior to the student starting their rotation.  Mercy does not assign clinical preceptors.  Students must secure their preceptor prior to turning in their paperwork.
