Lung Cancer Screening

Is a lung cancer screening right for you?

Mercy offers low-dose CT. Lung cancer screenings using low-dose CT can find cancer earlier, giving you a better chance of being cured.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Are you 55 to 77 years old?
  • Are you a smoker or a former smoker who has quit in the last 15 years?
  • Do you have at least a 30 pack/year smoking history? (See calculator below.)
  • Are you healthy with no personal history of lung cancer?
  • Are you willing to receive a life changing treatment?
  • Do you have at least a 30 pack/year smoking history? (See calculator example below.)

Calculate Packs/Year.
(20 cigarettes = 1 pack)
(one pack smoked per day) x (30 years smoking)= 30 pack years

Should you get a screening?
Lung cancer is the #1 cause of cancer deaths each year. If you answered yes to the above questions and your packs/year is 30 or greater, a lung cancer screening is right for you.

How do I get a screening?
Lung cancer screenings are availble through an order from your physcian only. So, talk to your primary care doctor about a low dose CT lung cancer screening.
