Women with a Mission Northwest Arkansas

As Women with a Mission, we strive to continue the mission of Mercy’s founder, Catherine McAuley. For more than seven generations, Mercy has established a legacy of care giving and commitment marked by compassion and excellence that continues today.

Through pooled resources and collaboration, The Susan Barrett Women with a Mission Society seeks to improve health care in Northwest Arkansas. The Society brings together women from diverse backgrounds with a common goal of making a difference through the power of giving together.

Established in 2009, the Society has enhanced the quality of health care through the purchase of a:

  • Surgical table for a Cesarean delivery operating room
  • BiliChek system for newborns
  • Breast Ultrasound system

Membership is open to all who support the mission of Mercy Northwest Arkansas with a minimum $1,000 annual gift.

Each year, the Society identifies health care needs within Mercy. Each member is an equal partner in the decisionmaking process; and 100 percent of your gift goes toward the selected project.

“I joined Women with a Mission because I believe a team of women has the power to accomplish meaningful things for Mercy and our community that I could not accomplish on my own.”
- Tina Winham, Business Development Manager, Cott Corporation

"Mercy is very important to our community. Joining Women with a Mission gives me a chance to do something personal for the hospital. Something lasting, helpful and needed.”
- Martha Bergant, Co-Chair, Women with a Mission

Catherine McAuley

A mission-minded woman, Catherine McAuley founded Sisters of Mercy. In 1827 she was moved to respond to the suffering and poverty she witnessed around her in Dublin, Ireland. With a $1 million inheritance she established the first House of Mercy in Dublin. Today, we continue to strive to carry on Catherine’s mission to serve the poor, sick and uneducated - especially women, children and the elderly.

Susan Barrett

Women with a Mission honors Susan Barrett. As former president and CEO of Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas, Susan’s visionary leadership played a significant role in Mercy’s new campus in 2008. Today, she continues to support Mercy while empowering many women along the way.
