Casa de Misericordia offers battered women the chance reclaim their lives through comprehensive, holistic services and consistent long-term support.

Casa de Misericordia's mission is the empowerment of women and children, the accountability of the batterer, and a commitment to work with the Laredo community.  Casa is committed to changing the way domestic violence is perceived, as well as the way battered victims and their families' needs are responded to.

Shelter From Violence

Casa provides secure, temporary residential services to victims of domestic violence. The shelter can house up to five families (an expansion is underway that will serve additional families). Casa provides a safe place where victims of domestic violence can be oriented, educated on domestic violence and where emotional support is provided. Casa also links victims to appropriate agencies based on their needs and goals.

If you think you are a victim of domestic violence and want information, call 956.712.9591 or 1-877-782-2722 (toll free).

Casa staff will assist you with a safety plan and answer questions regarding your situation. All information obtained is confidential. Appropriate referrals will be made to community agencies depending on your needs or the needs of other victims.

Your safety is of utmost importance. Sometimes the abuse has escalated to the point where you may have to leave your home. Plan ahead, think of relatives, friends, etc. who can assist you. If it is in your best interest to leave your home, do not forget legal documents, change of clothes, money, medication, children's diapers, formula and child's favorite toy.

Another consideration may be a protective order. A protective order will remove the batterer from the house. For more information on protective orders, call Casa.
