The purpose of the residency at Mercy Hospital Springfield is to prepare a pharmacist for clinical pharmacy practice in a community hospital or for a PGY-2 residency. In addition, the resident will be prepared to perform the duties of an adjunct faculty member. Service, teaching and scholarship are modeled and taught by residency preceptors to help the resident develop and apply the knowledge and skills required for a successful career in clinical pharmacy.
The Mercy Hospital Springfield PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency was started in 2007 graduating one resident per year. In 2016, the program expanded to three residents per year. The program is constantly growing and evolving to meet the needs of the residents. In 2021, Mercy Springfield welcomed its first PGY-2 resident in Ambulatory Care with plans to expand PGY-2 training to other specialties soon.
