St. John’s Hospital Receives $1 Million from Pitt, Becomes St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Affiliate

On June 13, a $1 million endowment to fund the recruitment of the Springfield area’s first pediatric hematology/oncology physician was given to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Mo. by the family of Jane Pitt, including the Brad Pitt family, Doug and Lisa Pitt and Rob and Julie Neal.

Also that day, St. John’s announced plans for expanded children’s healthcare services that include a formal affiliation with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Learn more.

St. Joseph’s Mercy Receives Three AFMC Quality Awards

St. Joseph’s Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs, Ark., recently received multiple quality improvement awards from the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC).

  1. An Innovator Award for the development and implementation of “Hands Across Hot Springs,” a community educational project that helped kick off the World Health Organization’s (WHO) worldwide “5 Moments for Hand Hygiene” campaign.
  2. A first-place Most Improved Award for having the highest reduction in failure rates of appropriate core measures from 2007 to 2008
  3. A second-place Best Achievement Award for having the second highest appropriate core measures from 2007 to 2008

Nurse On Call Receives URAC Accreditation

St. John’s Nurse On Call service, based in Springfield, Mo., has been awarded Health Call Center accreditation from URAC, an independent, non-profit healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry. Accreditation assures callers that Nurse On Call has taken the necessary steps to protect patient safety by having a department that meets high standards set by an outside objective source.
