Mercy Rehab Hospital Opens Newly Expanded Stroke Unit

Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital is opening a new, dedicated 22-bed Stroke Unit with all private rooms and specialized therapy gym. Patients are scheduled to move into the new unit July 16.

The stroke unit expanded from 10 beds to 22 beds reflecting a continuing commitment to meeting the growing needs of the stroke community. Along additional private rooms, the unit also includes a larger therapy gym with features such as:

• Body Weight Supported Harness Walking System - Allows for earlier and safer gait training.
• Saebo dynamic splinting program – Facilitates earlier movement of the affected upper extremity following a stroke.
• Bioness H200 and L300 Functional Electrical Stimulation system
• Independent Living Apartment – Functional training in a homelike environment.
• Recreation and pet therapy.
• Extensive education for patient and family.
• Stroke support groups – Facilitated by stroke survivors there are traditional support groups as well as a young stroke survivor support group.

Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital, a partnership between Mercy Hospital St. Louis and Centerre Healthcare, offers specialized programs and facilities for treating inpatients and outpatients with brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, amputations, arthritis, burns, or neuromuscular or musculoskeletal disorders.
