Mercy's COPD Education Center in Washington, Mo. is now open. The center is conveniently located at Mercy Medical Building South (by the Sleep Lab). One-hour appointments are available for patients with COPD Monday-Friday: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. There is no cost for this service.
During the appointment, a respiratory therapist works with patients to:
Assess immunization status
Engage the patient in a smoking cessation program
Assess whether the patient is a candidate for pulmonary rehab, nutritional counseling or care management
CPAP equipment evaluation/education
Perform medication reconciliation and discuss the importance of adherence
Teach the correct use of inhalers and nebulizers
Complete manufacturer assistance forms if the patient has trouble affording medications
