STAR Certified Program

Mercy Oncology Rehabilitation STAR Certified Program®

At Mercy, we want to help cancer survivors regain their health so they can have the best quality of life possible. For a cancer patient, treatment may cause pain, fatigue and disability. Through our cancer rehab program, Mercy helps a patient heal by improving his or her physical, emotional and spiritual outlook. The cancer rehab program is available at Mercy Oncology Rehabilitation located at 7610 S. Dallas St. in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Mercy’s program looks at “the big picture” in cancer rehab, rather than a problem-centered approach. In addition to focusing on a patient’s individual health conditions, specialists study other aspects, such as diet, sleep issues, pain, endurance, strength, exercise habits and emotional outlook. All of these have an important effect on physical healing.

Our program has an expert team of clinicians and specialists who can help ease the long-term effects of cancer treatment, thus improving the way a patient feels and lives.

This team may include: medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists (breast surgeons), general surgeons, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, breast health navigators, palliative care specialists, holistic nurses, infusion nurses, social workers, inpatient oncology staff, pastoral services, personal trainers, and certified lymphedema therapists.

The program offers therapy services, which may include exercise programs, energy conservation training, patient and family education, and referrals to other services. Most cancer rehabilitation services are reimbursed by health insurance providers. Check your plan for specific rehabilitation benefits.
