I picked urology is because it combines two things I enjoy: doing surgical procedures and having long term relationships with my patients. I can try to manage their condition with approaches like behavior modification and if things progress, I can also offer surgical solutions. One nice thing about urology is seeing patients long-term and offer them different treatment options. It's not like you see them once and never again. You care for them long-term. A good urologist needs a sense of humor. We're dealing with personal things that are difficult to talk about. Putting patients at ease builds the relationship and helps you get the information you need to fix the problem. I enjoy getting to know patients as people. One treatment option that might work for one person, but it might be something different for another, depending on their circumstances, so it’s important to know your patient as a whole person.
