Mercy Hospital Fort Smith serves as a teaching hospital and offers a varied patient population and case mix, state-of-the-art technology and units staffed for subspecialty care. Our program offers:

Medical Residency Programs
Insurance and Medical Care
Mercy Hospital Fort Smith offers participation in the Mercy co-worker cost share health, dental and vision care plans in accordance with Mercy Hospital Fort Smith policies for individual and eligible dependents. Eligible to participate in the flexible spending accounts for healthcare and/or dependent care expenses in accordance with the Mercy Hospital Fort Smith policies.
Professional liability insurance is provided by Mercy for residents with respect to their clinical activities while they are in training with Mercy Hospital Fort Smith.
Life insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment premiums are paid by the hospital, and benefits are paid to the specified beneficiary in accordance with the salary schedule and Mercy Hospital Fort Smith policies. Supplemental life insurance coverage is available, at Resident Physician’s cost. An individual portable long-term disability insurance plan is provided to all residents during residency.
Professional Meetings and Conferences
Residents are encouraged to attend national professional conventions and conferences. Residents receive up to $1,500 in professional education funds through residency. Additional financial assistance may be provided in specific circumstances. This must be discussed in advance with individual department directors. Course registrations for ACLS/PALS/NRP are paid for by Mercy Hospital Fort Smith.
Resident Physicians are eligible for three weeks (Monday-Sunday) or fifteen days of (weekdays) of vacation per year; and three weeks (Monday-Sunday) or fifteen days (weekdays) of sick leave per year. Unused vacation time or sick time may not be carried over to subsequent years.
