Thank you for your interest in a shadow/observation experience at Mercy. For your application to be approved, all requirements must be submitted at least three weeks prior to your shadow start date.
Eligibility Requirements
- Participant is at least 16 years of age.
- Shadowing experience will be 40 hours or less (within one year).
- Participant will only observe, without any hands-on interaction with a patient, medical equipment, medical records or computers. Participant will not enter any area of contamination such as isolation rooms, soiled linen areas, etc.
Next Steps to Apply (complete steps in order):
- Step 1: Find a Mercy caregiver you wish to shadow to be your preceptor and arrange specific dates and times to shadow. (Preceptors may not be a family member by any blood or marriage relation.) Note: It is your responsibility to secure a preceptor before filling out the application. Please review the Tips on Finding a Mercy Preceptor.
- Step 2: Print the Student/Shadow Vaccination Verification form and take it to your school nurse or physician to complete and sign.
- Step 3: Fill out the online Shadow Application at least three weeks prior to your start date to document the details of your arranged shadow experience. Note: The application will expire 30 days after application is submitted or within three to five business days of the requested shadow start date if all required documents are not received by Mercy.
- Step 4: Email the completed and signed Student/Shadow Vaccination Verification form to MercyShadowExperiences@mercy.net at least three to five business days prior to your shadowing start date as submitted on your application. (Note: Mercy caregivers do not have to submit this information as it is already on file at Mercy)
