Mercy Electronic Communication Policy

A. Social Media

Please note that Mercy will remove any content that is placed on the Mercy fan page that is considered potentially or actually threatening, defamatory, harassing, abusive, invasive of privacy, off topic or injurious to Mercy or any of our patients or co-workers.

B. Newsletters and Emails to You

At registration and at various times as you use Mercy websites, you will have the option of receiving regular email with informational or promotional newsletters. These may come from Mercy and/or directly from third parties. These emails will not contain information about your health condition or treatment. When you sign up for our email newsletters or at any time, you can choose to “opt in” to receive additional promotional emails from Mercy or our sponsors. In order to subscribe to Mercy newsletters via email, we need your contact information, like name and email address. You can unsubscribe from these emails at any time.

C. Emails You Send to Mercy

Email communication that you send to us via the email links on our site may be shared with a customer experience representative, employee or agent that is most able to address your inquiry. We make every effort to respond in a timely fashion once communications are received. Once we have responded to your communication, it is discarded or archived, depending on the nature of the inquiry.

The email functionality on our site does not provide a completely secure and confidential means of communication. It's possible that your email communication may be accessed or viewed by another Internet user while in transit to us. If you wish to keep your communication private, do not use email. Do not send credit card information in an email.

The content of business information, ideas, concepts or inventions that you send to Mercy by email are not protected by any privacy or other protections. If you want to keep content or business information, ideas, concepts or inventions private or proprietary, do not send them in an email to Mercy. We try to answer every email within 48 business hours, but are not always able to do so.

D. Secure Messaging

As another form of communication, you can register and/or sign into our site (MyMercy) with secured measures in place to help protect your information. These measures include encryption of data using the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) system, and using a secured messaging service when we send you personal information electronically. Despite these measures, the confidentiality of any communication or material transmitted to or from us via this site by Internet or email cannot be guaranteed. This private, secure messaging has been designated as the preferred method of communication for our patients concerning their health care with the Mercy care team.

E. Email a Friend

If you use our Email a Friend service to tell a friend about our site or newsletter, we will ask you for your name, your email address and your friend's email address. We will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting him or her to visit the site using your name and email address as the "from" email address. Mercy does not use your name, your email address or your friend's email information for any other purpose. We will only use the information you provide to send one email to each friend at your request.

F. Children

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. Neither Mercy nor any of its services are designed or intended to attract children under the age of 18. We do not collect personally identifiable information from any person we know is under the age of 18.

G. Market Research

From time to time the Mercy market research departments, or operations contractors acting on our behalf, conduct online research surveys through email invitations and online focus groups. When participating in a survey, we may ask you to enter personally identifiable information. Mercy may combine the personally identifiable information you submit in a survey with information about you from other sources. The information from other sources may include financial, health or other identifiable information. That information may also be combined with information from other people as well. This information is used for research purposes only. Personally identifiable information collected through market research will be used only by Mercy and our service providers and contractors and will not be given or sold to any other third party without your consent or as otherwise allowed by law. For general market research surveys we will not knowingly accept survey responses from or conduct interviews with any person under the age of 18.

Some surveys may provide remuneration (payment of some kind) to participants such as a small cash fee for your time or an entry into a sweepstakes for a larger prize and may contain opt-in permission for additional email follow-up surveys. We will tell you when you agree to participate in a survey if it is a paid survey. When our market research surveys collect personally identifiable information like name and email address or contain additional opt-in permissions for follow up or re-contact, or if a survey offers to provide remuneration of any kind, we will not knowingly accept participants in these instances under the age of 18. Authorized market research surveys that appear on will always include a link to our privacy policy. Mercy is not responsible for any market research surveys that are conducted on third-party sites.

In addition to collecting survey responses from our members, cookies may be used to verify your identify or to help you pick up where you left off in a survey. If you have cookies disabled in your web browser, you may not be able to participate in some studies. Cookies may be used to connect survey data with Mercy site usage characteristics. We may use cookies to determine whether you have seen certain content or advertising so that we may request your opinions. This may be done in surveys conducted on our behalf.
