Washington Cardiopulmonary Rehab Center

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation helps people with chronic heart or lung conditions lead healthier, more active lives. Our program, offered on the Mercy Hospital Washington campus in Medical Building North, provides medically supervised exercise therapy and education sessions tailored to your specific condition and needs. Your rehab team includes specially trained registered nurses and exercise physiologists.

Our cardiopulmonary rehab program has a designated gym equipped with elliptical machines, recumbent stationary bikes, arm cranks, treadmills and other equipment. We focus on helping you regain strength and reduce risk factors, so you can get back to doing what you love.

AACVPR Certified Program

Our program is accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation in both cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. Our team is trained in advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS), and our facility has emergency medical equipment available.

Cardiac Rehab Program Services

Mercy's cardiac rehab program has three phases:

  • Phase I – You receive inpatient rehabilitation, including low-level exercise and education about safe activity levels; this may include getting up and walking around your room or down the hallway with your physical therapist
  • Phase II – You participate in 12 weeks of outpatient rehabilitation, beginning four weeks after you return home; your doctor receives progress updates from the rehab team; check with your health plan regarding insurance coverage for this phase
  • Phase III – You participate in ongoing exercise that’s supervised less closely; whether you exercise at the gym or at home using an exercise program designed for you, you’ll pay for this phase as you would a regular gym program

All our cardiac rehab programs and services require a physician referral and must follow physician orders.

Pulmonary Rehab Program Services

Pulmonary rehab may be right for you if you’ve had the following conditions or procedures:

  • Post lung transplant
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Lung or bronchial cancer

Mercy’s pulmonary rehab program has three phases:

  • Phase I – While you’re in the hospital, you receive education and exercise therapy for pulmonary disease
  • Phase II – You receive outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation at our cardiopulmonary rehab location; the program includes exercise therapy, respiratory therapy and nursing care to help you reach your optimum activity level
  • Phase III – You enter the maintenance phase, focused on maintaining your health and activity level

All our pulmonary rehab programs and services require a physician referral and must follow physician orders.
