Botox for Chronic Headaches

Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox®, is well known for its ability to smooth wrinkles and rejuvenate an aging face. But Botox is also a proven treatment for pain and muscle-related conditions, such as frequent debilitating migraines, headaches and chronic muscle spasms.

Botox injections block chemical signals that cause muscles to contract. Injections are given in the doctor’s office with a small needle. Treatments usually take less than 20 minutes. To get maximum relief from migraine, your physician may recommend injections every three months.

Most insurance plans cover the cost of Botox treatment for an FDA-approved therapeutic use.

If you think you might benefit from Botox injections, talk to your Mercy doctor, who can refer you to a specialist. Together, they will carefully assess your symptoms and make sure you’re comfortable and informed every step of the way. We’ll develop a coordinated approach that will help relieve your pain and get you back to doing all the things you love.
