What to Expect at Your Assessment

We look forward to talking to you about your concerns and helping you find a way to return to the activities you love. We want you to know what to expect. So here’s a basic outline of what will happen at your sports pain assessment.

  1. After you check in at the front desk, you’ll be introduced to your Certified Athletic Trainer (AT) and taken to an exam room.
  2. Your AT will listen to your health history and the pain you’re worried about now.
  3. They’ll perform a basic exam to diagnose the condition and start to develop a plan of action.
  4. Your AT will answer all of your questions and give you next steps to put you on the path to recovery.

Next steps could include:

  • Exercises or stretches to do at home
  • A suggestion to see a physical therapist for additional treatment
  • If more rigorous diagnostic tests or treatment are needed, your AT may refer you to a sports medicine physician
  • Other recommendations may be made based on your specific needs

Please note imaging tests such as x-rays or lab work require a physician order, and are not part of this assessment.
