A non-surgical, non-invasive treatment for cancerous or non-cancerous tumors anywhere in the body, CyberKnife delivers high doses of radiation to cancer, tumors and lesions while minimizing exposure to nearby healthy tissues and organs.
The CyberKnife system, providing stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), adjusts radiation targeting and dosage by using image-guidance software that tracks, and continuously adjusts, tumor treatment as the tumor moves with a patient’s breathing. The frequency of treatments depends on the location and type of tumor(s).
CyberKnife has been approved by the FDA for use in treating certain operable, inoperable and surgically complex tumors of the brain, spine, head and neck, prostate, pancreas, liver and kidney.
CyberKnife is used to treat both Intracranial (head and brain) and Extracranial (outside the skull) tumors and lesions.
If you have questions or concerns about CyberKnife, don’t hesitate to talk to one of your Mercy caregivers. We’re eager to provide you with the very best care and get you back to living more fully.
