Volunteer at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith

At Mercy, our volunteers put compassion into action. Our Mercy volunteers’ work is indispensable to Mercy Hospital Fort Smith as it allows us to utilize precious resources most efficiently. Likewise, it is invaluable to patients and their families who sometimes need a bit of direction, a helping hand, or a reassuring smile. At Mercy, our service is always guided by our cherished core values:  Dignity, Justice, Service, Excellence and Stewardship

Volunteer opportunities for service in Fort Smith include:

  • Information desk host
  • ICU and surgery waiting rooms host
  • Patient escort
  • Summer volunteen program
  • Office work (various departments)
  • Medical library
  • Other patient and visitor contact areas

Mercy is honored to offer teens an opportunity to experience six weeks of summer service in our hospital and clinics in Fort Smith.

  • Applicants must be 15–17 years old to apply.
  • Applications will be accepted from January 1st to March 31st.
  • After applications are reviewed, a letter will be emailed out to applicants by April 18th regarding acceptance to the program.

Returning teens will be accepted into our summer program. 

VolunTeen Requirements

For your personal planning, the requirements for volunteens are as follows:

  • Volunteens will be required to attend one 3-hour orientation, which will be offered in early June(dates TBD).
  • In order to apply, each student must commit to volunteering one, four-hour shift per week from June 16th to July 25th. Please do not apply if you will be absent or unable to serve for more than one week during that period.
  • Volunteens will be required to attend a Health Screening at Mercy that includes a TB test, blood draw, and drug screening.

*Please note that there are a limited number of volunteer positions available for our summer program.

**If you are 18 or older and would like to participate in our summer program, please complete an adult application and indicate on the application that you are interested in summer service only.
