The Mercy Fort Smith Family Medicine Residency is a three-year program sponsored by a large, active community teaching hospital. Eight residents enter the program each year. The faculty and residents practice in a state-of-the-art facility located near the hospital. This ensures that faculty are available to residents at all times. Resident learning is enhanced as they see patients side-by-side with faculty.
The mission of Mercy Family Medicine Residency is to develop future family physicians who are committed to the highest ethical and professional standards in patient care for all ages. The program provides quality, evidence-based, personalized care for patients, with a goal of improving patient access to care. We embrace the defining tenets of family medicine and the Mercy Health Ministry. In partnership with the sponsoring institution, we’re committed to educating and training physicians from diverse backgrounds to become leaders and champions of health for the region and medically underserved areas.
Education is provided in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. The program uses the "Clinic First" standard, progressively modeling the role of a practicing family physician.
