Transitional Year Residency
The Transitional Year Residency at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith supports the growth and development of physicians who are committed to the highest ethical and professional standards of patient care. Our program offers a high-quality educational environment and broad exposure to clinical experiences that prepare postgraduate year one (PGY-1) residents to enter a categorical residency.
Rooted in History and Diversity
Mercy has a long-standing history of honoring diverse backgrounds and a tradition of dignity and justice, rooted in the vision of our foundress, Catherine McAuley, and the Sisters of Mercy. We uphold this culture in our approach to residency trainee recruitment, selection and retention.
Mercy’s residency programs attract diverse applicants from different racial, ethnic, cultural, social and economic backgrounds. In alignment with our values, we actively seek applicants who are committed to caring for underserved, diverse and underrepresented patient populations.
Community Outreach Initiatives
In collaboration with the sponsoring institution, the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, the residency program is focused on creating and sustaining an inclusive environment. This includes community outreach initiatives that enhance interprofessional collaboration, diversity and inclusion.
