Pharmacy Practice Residency Program

  • 12-month ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency
  • Start date:  7/1/2024

The Mercy Springfield Hospital Pharmacy Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) residency program builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of a clinical pharmacist responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Graduates of the Mercy Springfield Hospital PGY1 program will be prepared to assume positions as patient care clinicians, to serve as adjunct faculty for a college of pharmacy, to pursue second year post-graduate training in a focused area of practice, and be eligible for board certification.

Program History

The Mercy Hospital Springfield PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency was started in 2007 graduating one resident per year. In 2016, the program expanded to three residents per year. The program is constantly growing and evolving to meet the needs of the residents. In 2021, Mercy Springfield welcomed its first PGY-2 resident in Ambulatory Care and expanded to include a PGY-2 critical care resident in 2022.
