Independence Adds Speech Therapist

Emerson provides speech therapy services to Mercy Hospital patients of all ages in the inpatient, outpatient and home health settings, assisting with issues such as speech and language disorders, swallowing difficulties, cognitive communication impairments, traumatic brain injuries, developmental delays, fluency, voice and learning disabilities. She has a special interest in working with the senior population, with individuals affected by stroke and in providing dysphagia (swallowing) therapy.

She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from Fort Hays State University in Hays and recently completed externships with the Olathe School District and Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. Her other previous clinical experience includes providing services at the Geneva Herndon Speech-Language Hearing Clinic, Hays Medical Center, Holy Family Elementary School and Head Start, all in Hays.

Emerson is originally from Great Bend and recently relocated to Independence from Overland Park. She enjoys running, singing, reading and spending time with friends and family.
