Mercy Hospital Ardmore has become the fourth in the state to offer a medical lab science program. The new program began in June and is educating the next generation of lab technicians.
“Literature will say that 70-80 percent of diagnosis are based or come from laboratory science,” said Karen Ford, program director.
Students in the lab technician program complete a 49-week program working alongside laboratory scientists in a fully operational lab. They gain practical, hands-on experience and are exposed to a hospital environment.
The current lab technician class will graduate next May.
