Mercy Clinic Welcomes New Hematologist/Oncologist

November 13, 2014

OKLAHOMA CITY – Being a cancer doctor takes a very special type of person who can handle not only the medical challenges, but also the emotional rollercoaster ride that comes with diagnosing and treating cancer.

Dr. Suzanne Cole, a new Mercy Clinic board-certified hematologist and oncologist in Oklahoma City, is just that type of doctor.

“Every day I get to make a huge impact on people’s lives,” said Cole. “Cancer, by its nature, is very serious. I feel privileged to be able to develop close relationships with my patients through their battle against cancer. I get to stand with them during the fight and walk with them the whole way. It is a great honor for me to shine a light of hope and provide help when cancer casts its dark shadow.”

Cole has past experience both as a hematologist and oncologist, and also as a researcher. While she expertly cares for all patients with any blood or cancer condition, she has a special interest in bladder, kidney and prostate cancers. She also takes great pride in enrolling patients in clinical trials. She said she loves being able to offer patients more treatment options than they would normally have access to through clinical trials.

As a self-proclaimed straight shooter, she believes it is important to be honest with patients and provide all the information they need to help them make the best decisions for themselves when deciding how to move forward after a cancer diagnosis.

Cole received her medical degree and completed her internal medicine residency from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She completed her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Cole recently moved to Oklahoma from Charleston, West Virginia, where she was in practice for several years. She is married with four children. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, entertaining friends and living life to its fullest.

Mercy Clinic Hematology and Oncology is located at 4205 McAuley Boulevard, Suite 375, in Oklahoma City. The clinic can be reached at 405-751-4343.
