ST. LOUIS - A Children’s Dream Racer was recently delivered to Mercy Children’s Hospital, made possible by the St. Louis Association of Health Underwriters.
A Dream Racer is a child-size version of a real NASCAR race car. Built by retired NASCAR car builder and ofounder of CDR, Mark “Smitty” Smith, these cars are made with the same materials used to make real NASCAR race cars.
The cars contain flat panel TV, CD/DVD player, PlayStation, IV stand, oxygen bottle holder, easy roll casters with brake and a trunk for storage.
Children’s Dream Racer is a charity organization started by a retired NASCAR car builder that has been embraced by 12 local chapters of the National Association of Health Underwriters group.
The St. Louis chapter met Children's Dream Chaser representatives last summer and decided they needed to bring one to St. Louis. Funds were raised by a combination of agency and carrier sponsorships as well as fundraising events organized by the association board including golf tournaments, trivia nights and various raffles and 50/50s.
