Mercy Ada Named a Best Maternity Hospital in Nation

February 19, 2021

Mercy Hospital Ada has been named one of the best hospitals in the country for baby deliveries.

Mercy Hospital Ada was one of only 217 hospitals in the nation included on the Best Maternity Hospitals 2021 list compiled by Newsweek and The Leapfrog Group, and only one of four hospitals in the state of Oklahoma. Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City was also recognized for its maternity care.

To be named a best maternity hospital, providers must meet the high standards for safety and quality set by The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit organization. The standards set for this honor include low rates of Cesarean deliveries (C-sections), episiotomies and early elective deliveries (prior to 39 weeks of gestation without medical necessity). Hospitals also are evaluated on their adherence to two important protocols to protect mothers and babies: screening newborns for high bilirubin levels and following guidelines to reduce the risk of blood clots in mothers who deliver by C-section.

“This really speaks volumes about the birthing care we provide to our community,” said Terence Farrell, president of Mercy Hospital Ada. “Our families can trust that we are providing them some of the best and safest care, and we are meeting or exceeding the standards based on medical research and best practices. This designation reflects the dedicated work by our entire birthing team.”

Mercy Hospital Ada was also recognized this past year as a top rural hospital by The Leapfrog Group, repeatedly receiving a Leapfrog Grade A, and received a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services four-star rating.
