Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most precious moments. At Mercy Southeast, parents are reassured knowing the care of baby and mother meets the most rigorous standards, earning Mercy Southeast the honor of being named to Newsweek’s 2024 list of Best Maternity Care Hospitals.

This prestigious distinction recognizes hospitals that have provided exceptional care to mothers, newborns and their families. Mercy Southeast joins the ranks of 404 leading maternity hospitals across the nation and just 11 in Missouri. Mercy Southeast is the only hospital in Southeast Missouri to earn this honor.

“I am incredibly proud of the entire obstetrics team for their dedication and demonstrated commitment to excellence,” said Dr. Naresh Agarwal, Mercy Southeast chief medical officer. “This honor highlights our commitment to providing a safe, personalized birthing experience. High quality maternity care from pregnancy through birth and postpartum is key to the long-term health of both newborns and new mothers.”

To help expectant parents find the right facility, Newsweek partnered with data and business intelligence portal Statista. The Newsweek ranking is based on a nationwide online survey of hospital managers and medical professionals as well as publicly available data from hospital surveys addressing the patient experience. Data on hospital quality metrics was provided from several sources, including The Joint Commission, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Since its opening in 1928, Mercy Southeast has offered uninterrupted obstetrics services, welcoming tens of thousands of babies into the world.
