Dr. William Jones is new to Mercy Pittsburg and accepting new patients! Get to know him with a good, old-fashioned Q&A!
Q. Did you always know you wanted to be a doctor?
A. I did not know I always wanted to be a doctor. I, like many teenagers headed to college, did not know what I wanted to do. I knew I liked science and math and chose to start college as an engineering major. After one year, I knew engineering was not right for me and found myself signing up to take biology and genetics courses. After changing my major to biology, I took time and explored many different career options. After shadowing pediatricians in my local community, I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!
Q. What drew you to pediatrics?
A. I have always liked working with kids. My earliest jobs were working with kids at summer camps. In medical school, I was fascinated by the medicine in pediatrics. Going into medical school, I kept an open mind about what type of doctor I would become. I ended up always going back to pediatrics! Working with children is the most rewarding side of medicine in my opinion. Watching children grow, thrive and helping them when they are ill brightens your day.
Q. What is your favorite thing about your job?
A. My favorite thing about my job is my patients. I know this answer might sound cliché. Children are fun. Working with kids brings me joy! Helping them be healthy and thrive gives me great satisfaction.
Q. What made you want to join Mercy?
A. I wanted to join Mercy to continue to grow as a provider. Joining Mercy allows me to continue treating patients in the outpatient clinic setting while adding services like inpatient pediatrics and nursery coverage. Both services that were not present at my last work location. Additionally, Mercy is located close to home. Being newly married, Mercy is positioned perfectly between my wife’s family and my own. Both of us grew up as Kansas kids and knew we wanted to settle down close to home.
