“A top safety score is the foundation that leads to improved outcomes for our patients and getting them back home with their families as soon as possible,” said Bennett Geister, president of Mercy Oklahoma City Communities. “I’m so proud of our caregivers and everything they’ve done to earn an A grade three times in a row. The compassionate care that our patients benefit from is what will help us earn A grades for years to come.”

Leapfrog rates hospitals on an A-F grading scale after reviewing more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“Achieving an A Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Mercy, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”

Nine additional Mercy hospitals have earned the highest rating including in Ada and Ardmore in Oklahoma. Other Mercy hospitals with the top grade are in Arkansas (Fort Smith, Northwest Arkansas), Kansas (Pittsburg) and Missouri (Jefferson, Lebanon, Springfield and Washington).

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. To learn more about these grades, visit HospitalSafetyGrade.org.

Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City has also been recognized as one of the world’s best hospitals, the top hospital in OKC and also the top maternity hospital in OKC. It has a 4-star Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) quality rating.
