Mercy's Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences Celebrates New Graduates

Mercy’s Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences awarded 51 degrees at its spring 2025 commencement ceremony.

This year’s commencement took place Saturday, May 3, at La Croix Church in Cape Girardeau. Tonya Buttry, Ph.D., Dean of Nursing, served as the commencement speaker. She will retire later this summer after more than 40 years of service with the college and Mercy Southeast. Dr. Buttry received recognition for her contributions to the college and community, presented to her by Missouri State Sen. Jamie Burger, and was awarded professor emerita status by College Board President, Dr. Jim Dufek.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences conferred 19 Bachelor of Science degrees in nursing, 11 Associate of Applied Science degrees in radiologic technology, 12 Associate of Applied Science degrees in nursing, three Associate of Applied Science degrees in surgical technology, and six certificates in medical laboratory science. Fourteen graduates will also earn an Associate of Arts in Allied Health degree.

Six students were recognized for outstanding academic performance by earning the highest grade point average in their respective programs: Aimee Linares of Jackson, Missouri, BSN; Ian Bryant of Jackson, Missouri, Medical Laboratory Science; Leah Cundiff of St. Peters, Missouri, Medical Laboratory Science; Jamie Myers of Altenburg, Missouri, Nursing; Jaylin Street of Patterson, Missouri, Radiologic Technology; and Jamesha Williams of Kennett, Missouri, Surgical Technology.
