“Our goal with this event is simple: To encourage people to be proactive in their health and get the care they need when they need it,” said Simone Lampkin, Mercy Cancer Center director and event organizer. “Early detection saves lives, and it often starts with a routine visit to a primary care provider. It’s one of the easiest and best things you can do for your future self.”

The Mercy Southeast Community Health Event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Mercy Cancer Center – Cape Girardeau, 789 S. Mount Auburn Road.

“This is our inaugural year to host an event like this since becoming a part of Mercy,” Lampkin said.  “We want to show our existing and new patients just how vast Mercy’s network really is and how connected and personalized your care is right here in town with your local provider.”

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department will be on-site to talk fire safety, show off their fire trucks and even host an inflatable house. The American Red Cross will also be available with information about upcoming blood drives in the area.

In addition to giveaways, face painting and a photo booth, Southeast Missouri State University’s Rowdy the Redhawk and Cape Catfish’s Captain Catfish will make appearances.

The free indoor/outdoor event will take place rain or shine. Residents of all ages from all parts of the region are welcome.
