Beyond Grateful for Mercy Washington Volunteers

May 15, 2026

WASHINGTON, Mo. - Mercy Washington leaders recently celebrated the many volunteers who support the hospital and clinics. This past year, 72 dedicated volunteers contributed 8,526 hours of service, bringing the cumulative total to more than 193,00 hours in service to our patients, families, staff and the community. This year’s theme, “Beyond Grateful for Volunteers Like You,” captured the spirit of the celebration.

Marie Moore, Mercy Washington president, and Dr. David Tannehill, Mercy Washington chief medical officer, spoke to the group about their impact on Mercy patients and our community. They also introduced the vision for Mercy Washington’s future and shared highlight of our past year’s accomplishments and equipment upgrades – including the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, which will be up and running in June.

At the brunch, volunteers were awarded pins for annual hours of service. The breakdown included seven 100-hour pins, three 500-hour pins, six 1,000-hour pins, four 2,000-hour pins and one 4,000-hour pins.

Jannae Carpp, supervisor of Mercy Washington volunteer services and gift shops, recognized two individuals who went above and beyond, Rose Ann Willenbrink and Joanne Bonney, naming them Volunteers of the Year.

Carpp said Willenbrink has been volunteering at Mercy since 2011. During COVID, she spent hours sewing masks for visitors when supplies were limited. She has been a gift shop buyer, eucharistic minister for patients and Mercy Washington Auxiliary president, always giving of herself and time very humbly.

Bonney has been a volunteer for the last eight years. Carpp said, “Joanne is someone I can always count on for last-minute projects that need to be done quickly and correctly. She consistently goes above and beyond, often adding extra hours in the office after her shift to help with anything needed – from stuffing envelopes and calculating hours to wrapping gifts, creating signs and supporting gift shop operations.”

Mercy Washington is beyond grateful for all volunteers. They are an invaluable part of the care team.
